We comply with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) to ensure personal data is handled securely and in line with legal requirements.

Singapore Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA)

The Singapore PDPA, introduced in 2012 and amended in 2020, serves as Singapore’s principal data protection framework. It governs the collection, use, disclosure, and care of personal data, ensuring that organizations handle such information responsibly while respecting individuals’ rights. In addition to PDPA, various subsidiary legislations have been issued. The PDPA applies to all organizations, regardless of location, that process the personal data of individuals residing in Singapore. Non-compliance with the PDPA can result in significant penalties, including fines of up to SGD 100,00 for egregious breaches. The PDPA balances the need for data protection with Singapore’s economic and technological development.

By adhering to the PDPA, we ensure the protection of personal data and comply with both legal and ethical standards, building trust with our stakeholders.

Singapore’s data protection authority is the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC). The PDPC provides oversight, guidance, and support for both individuals and organizations.

  • Personal Data: Data, whether true or not, about an individual who can be identified from that data or from that data and other information to which the organisation has or is likely to have access.
  • Processing: Carrying out of any operation or set of operations in relation to the personal data which includes recording or holding or organisation or adaptation or alteration or retrieval or combination or transmission or erasure or destruction.

Under Singapore’s PDPA, individuals have several rights regarding their personal data, including:

  • Right to Access: Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Correction: Correct any inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for the collection, use, or disclosure of your personal data at any time, subject to certain exceptions.

As a data processor, Netskope processes personal data on behalf of the clients and in accordance with their instructions. Our key responsibilities as a processor include:

  • We process personal data on behalf of our clients under clear contractual agreements, ensuring that all processing is conducted lawfully, fairly, and transparently.
  • We implement robust technical and organizational measures to safeguard personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, or loss.
  • We assist our clients in meeting their compliance obligations, including responding to data subject requests and ensuring timely reporting of any data breaches.

As a data controller, Netskope is responsible for processing personal data related to our employees. In this capacity, we ensure that:

  • We collect and process employee data solely for legitimate purposes, such as recruitment, payroll, and compliance with employment laws.
  • We provide transparency by informing employees about how their data is used and ensuring their rights to access and correction.
  • Appropriate measures are in place to protect employee data from unauthorized access or loss.
  • We continually train our staff and review internal policies to ensure compliance with the PDPA and promote a culture of data protection.
  • Any data breaches are addressed promptly and effectively, with required notifications to the PDPC and affected individuals when applicable.
