We comply with Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI) to ensure personal data is handled securely and in line with legal requirements.

Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI)

The APPI, initially enacted in 2003 and most recently amended in 2023, serves as Japan’s comprehensive data protection framework. It regulates the handling of personal information by businesses to protect individuals’ rights and interests while enabling the smooth use of data in business operations. Non-compliance with the APPI can lead to administrative penalties, reputational damage, and in severe cases, criminal charges.

By adhering to the APPI, we ensure the protection of personal data and comply with both legal and ethical standards, building trust with our stakeholders.

Japan’s data protection authority is the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC). The PPC provides oversight, guidance, and support for both individuals and organizations. You can find more information at PPC’s official website.

  • Right to Access: Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Correction: Request corrections to any inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Right to Deletion: Request the deletion of personal data when it is no longer necessary for the stated purpose.
  • Right to Stop Use: Request a halt to the use or provision of your personal data in certain circumstances, such as unauthorized use.

As a data processor, Netskope processes personal information on behalf of our clients and in accordance with their instructions. Our key responsibilities as a processor include:

  • We process personal information on behalf of our clients under clear contractual agreements, ensuring that all processing is conducted lawfully, fairly, and transparently.
  • We implement robust technical and organizational measures to safeguard personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, or loss.
  • We assist our clients in meeting their compliance obligations, including responding to data subject requests and ensuring timely reporting of any data breaches.

As a data controller, Netskope is responsible for processing personal information related to our employees. In this capacity, we ensure that:

  • We collect and process employee information solely for legitimate purposes, such as recruitment, payroll, and compliance with employment laws.
  • We provide transparency by informing employees about how their information is used and ensuring their rights to access, correction, and deletion.
