The sound functioning of the global economy relies on the integrity of financial institutions, which must pass strict regulatory requirements. A security executive at Apex Group comments: “Our reputation relies on delivering services that organizations can trust.”
With each of its 34 companies operating their own tech stack, Apex Group recognized an opportunity to consolidate. A key focus of this change was centralizing the firm’s data security capabilities, which span 42 countries and legal jurisdictions, each with specific data transfer requirements. “Improving our data protection capabilities was a key driver for us,” says the executive, “that included protecting users and data inline with our cloud application onboarding process and reducing our risk exposure through the use of quantitative risk analysis.”
Apex Group was also looking at consolidation to reduce the cost and complexity of its security infrastructure. “We’re growing all the time, therefore, we were looking for secure access to help us manage mergers and acquisitions more efficiently while maintaining the employees’ productivity.”
Finally, the group’s companies use a broad range of niche, sector-specific applications. There was also a significant shadow IT footprint. Risk profiling these applications is essential, but it can take considerable time and effort, and Apex Group was looking for a more efficient way of managing this process.
We’re growing all the time; therefore, we were looking for secure access to help us manage mergers and acquisitions more efficiently while maintaining the employees’ productivity.
Following a successful proof-of-value demonstration, Netskope was selected by Apex Group to consolidate its security systems and enhance its data security posture. The security lead explains why Netskope won out over the competition: “The key point for us was that Netskope’s multi-layered approach aligns with our holistic security strategy. Indeed, the converged approach mirrors our business model, providing a single-source approach to security while enabling us to fold in newly acquired businesses much faster than in the past.”
Apex Group now uses the Netskope Security Service Edge (SSE), comprising Next Gen SWG, CASB, DLP, and Threat Protection. The solution also includes Netskope ZTNA (zero trust network access) Next; Netskope Cloud Firewall, a Firewall-as-a-Service (FWaaS) solution for egress traffic; and Advanced Analytics, which will help the company better understand its exposure to cloud risks.
“Netskope offers one of the most comprehensive cloud security platforms available,” says the executive. “And its cloud-native architecture ensures a seamless deployment, scalability, and performance, which are critical factors for our global operations. What’s more, Netskope’s commitment to cloud security innovation is unlike anything else we’ve seen on the market.”
He continues: “Our growth strategy is fueled by mergers and acquisitions and Netskope NPA for ZTNA has huge value and flexibility for us in these scenarios. We can quickly onboard and drive value from acquisitions without impacting our security posture, while moving toward our desired goal of secure access anywhere, to anything, and at any time.”
Netskope provides us with the tools and capabilities to securely embrace cloud technologies while maintaining control and compliance.
With Netskope, Apex Group can meet its critical business objectives relating to cloud security and data protection, while creating a more agile platform for consolidating acquisitions. He explains: “Netskope provides us with the capabilities to securely embrace the cloud while maintaining control and compliance.”
In addition, Apex Group has complete control over cloud applications and can enforce policies to ensure data protection and manage shadow IT. Meanwhile, the IT team can automatically assess both corporate and shadow IT applications for risk using Netskope’s pre-existing profiles. The approach saves many hours of manual labor and supports the group’s assurance processes.
Apex Group also benefits from increased visibility into cloud usage, which allows the company to optimize resource allocation. This visibility translates into a lower risk exposure, as Apex Group can proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.
Lastly, the ability of Netskope solutions to integrate with third-party systems has greatly reduced complexity. “With Netskope we benefit from a tightly integrated stack,” says the executive. “We’ve gone down from more than 40 point-solutions to around eight consolidated technologies.” This high level of consolidation enables Apex Group to automate the level-one tier of its global SOC.
Apex Group believes the automation and integration that Netskope enables saves the business many thousands of pounds annually in operational expenses. The solution has also made it easier for Apex Group to save on licensing renewals. During one major cybersecurity system refresh, the company saved £450,000 on licensing by migrating to Netskope and completed the project three months early.
